Participation in the seminar “The European Union and Africa in a Multi Crises World” of the Jean Monnet Policy Debate Project in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

On March 25-27, 2024, Inna Koblianska, an associate professor of the department, participated in a seminar on the project “The European Union and Africa in a Multi Crises World” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The project is implemented within the framework of the ERASMUS-JMO-2023-NETWORKS program. Its head is Jean-Marc Trouillet, the Jean Monnet Professor and a department teacher.

The seminar on the topic “EU-Africa Relations / EU-AU Partnership: Promoting Dialogue to Strengthen the EU-AU Partnership” aimed to outline the partners’ next steps concerning the project implementation, in particular, towards promoting institutional transformations in African countries in accordance with EU values. In addition, the results of the project partners’ research on regional, migration, economic, and social policy in African countries and the European Union were presented. A formal meeting was also held at the EU Embassy in Ethiopia during the seminar.

Inna Koblianska presented the results of a study on the topic “russian war in Ukraine: impact on agriculture and food supply,” which outlined the potential negative consequences for African countries caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine: food shortages, restrictions on exports from Africa to Ukraine, and russia’s increased economic influence on the continent.

Communication with representatives of African universities and civil society and dissemination of real information about what is happening in Ukraine were also important aspects of this visit. This contributed to the destruction of many myths spread by russian propaganda. We hope for increased support for Ukraine from African countries and the development of scientific and educational cooperation with new partners.
