The victory in the Universal University competition for the use of their own mobile devices in the learning process

On September 12, Sumy State University awarded the winners of the universal university competition for the use of their own mobile devices in the educational process. The competition was attended by 22 teachers, who submitted for consideration 16 projects. The first place was given by two in the nomination “Effective use of existing software products”. They received methodological work on “Using Google Classroom and Umix technologies in the process of student learning” by professors of the Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance, Dr.sc.ing., Prof. Schoolboy I. O. and Ph.D., Assoc. Semenoga A. Yu.

The methodology proposed by teachers revealed that:

The use of their own mobile devices in the educational process is like the students, they feel that teachers and the university “keep pace with the present”;

Using Google Glass and Umix allows you to almost fully engage students who study on an individual basis prior to mastering disciplines. Discussion and commenting of tasks in a certain way compensates for their absence in pairs. It is also established that the activity of shy students grows, since they are often not heard on pairs, while they are highly active in discussions in the virtual space;
The placement of video materials and articles from on-line magazines allows to significantly expand the range of students’ knowledge in a form convenient to them;
In some ways, using Google Classroom and Umix allows you to reduce the teacher’s and student’s dependence on the presence of a projector and screen in the audience. The teacher can put the lecture presentation on the Google Classroom directly in pairs, and students can open it on their own laptops or tablets. Moreover, the teacher is quite convenient, because he can follow the progress of the presentation through his smartphone;
It is also convenient to set up a Google Classroom task scheduler for practical tasks. For example: every 20 minutes students in their devices have new tasks to perform (perhaps even the choice of different tasks for different students in the audience). This allows the teacher not to print materials for practical or independent work;
It is very convenient to install “home” assignments in the Google Classroom, which develops time management skills for students, and dismisses the teacher from the student’s later assignments (the system will not allow the student to send the job);
An important element is the ability for students to complete on-line testing, which makes it easy for the teacher to test the tests and allows students to take control work in their free time.
