Current trends in economic development: an innovative course for graduate students

In November 2020, Prof. Leonid Melnyk and Prof. Alexander Matsenko began teaching a new course for PhD students of 051 “Economics” − “Current trends in economic development”, which includes the results of research in two Chairs of Jean Monnet.

“In EU Economic Policy and Civil Society” (619878-EPP- 1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-CHAIR) and “Legislative, economic and social transition of the EU to a sustainable society within Industry 4.0 and 5.0” (619997-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-CHAIR).

Interactive online lectures are held with interesting discussions of PhD students. Based on the MiX platform, a virtual classroom has been created, where graduate students have the opportunity to instantly receive practical tasks and respond to them. Students are fully provided with educational material, namely they are given access to video lectures, abstracts, presentations and the latest textbooks and manuals of the authors of the course, including:

  • Distruptive technologies in economics and business (EU experience and practice of Ukraine in the light of III, IV and V industrial revolutions): textbook / ed. L. Melnik and B. Kovalev. – Sumy: Sumy State University, 2020. – 180 p. ISBN 978-966-657-792-7
  • Melnyk L. “Green Economy” (EU experience and practice of Ukraine in the light of III and IV industrial revolutions): the textbook. Sumy: VTD “University Book”, 2018. 463 pp. ISBN 978-966-680-841-0
  • Melnik L. Industrial revolutions: a textbook / L. Melnik, A. Matsenko, I. Degtyareva, A. Kubatko. – Sumy: ITD “University Book”, 2017. – 160 p.

Practical online classes (led by Assoc. Prof. O. Matsenko) are organized on a brigade basis. Thanks to the use of several virtual boards, graduate students have the opportunity to solve practical classes in teams and illustrate the results of their implementation, in consultation with the teacher.

A creative approach to the organization of the course allowed graduate students to quickly navigate and begin to implement a research project in line with current trends in economic development.

We wish success to graduate students and their teachers!
